Reimagining a Sacred Space for Every Generation

A vision for the future!

Reimagining a Sacred Space for Every Generation image

At the heart of the Perry Lutheran Homes campus is an existing chapel that has served generations of residents and families, ready to be reimagined. As our ministry has evolved, we have an opportunity to honor that sacred history while reimagining the space around the changing needs of the people we serve.

We are seeking to create The Garden Chapel: Rooted in Christ Through Every Season, a year-round, Christ-centered chapel and indoor garden solarium intentionally designed to remain accessible as people age and their physical or cognitive abilities change.

The vision includes a chapel and flexible use space that includes a sensory garden where older adults, individuals living with dementia, children, families, and the greater community can experience worship, prayer, relationships, nature, and God's creation together. Accessible gardening areas, living plants, sensory experiences, safe walking areas, gathering spaces, and Christ-centered elements will create an environment for worship, movement, learning, memory, and multigenerational ministry.

While we directly serve more than 120 older adults and their families, we also serve approximately 50 of our community’s youth through our Acorns & Oaks Christian Academy, all of whom will directly benefits from the opportunities created through the Garden Chapel. But the benefits extend far beyond as the space can be enjoyed and used by the greater community, volunteer groups and more.

Initial funds will support architectural and engineering consultation, evaluation of the existing chapel, accessibility and code considerations, conceptual design, preliminary construction planning, and development of a reliable project cost estimate. Your investment will provide the professional foundation, initial physical environment, and ministry development needed to launch the Garden Chapel. Perry Lutheran Homes will build upon that investment through grants, donations, memorial gifts, congregational partnerships, and future capital fundraising.
